Amidst teaching and graduate classes, I managed to get a few hours of gaming time in these last two weeks. I finally gave in and bought Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle<\/a><\/em> and, with the arrival of the beautiful Glacier White PS4 Pro<\/em><\/a>, I now own Destiny 2<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

While I’ve only played a few hours of M+R<\/em>, I was rather surprised by the game. It looks great on the Switch in both docked and handheld–the colors are pleasingly bright, the animations are solid, and the cut scenes are impressive. The time I spent playing M+R<\/em> really made me think about the Switch’s potential and makes me hopeful that Nintendo will consider more collaborative projects. I want to see that third-party AAA stuff!<\/p>\n

The gameplay is easy to grasp, fun, and addictive. In addition to how well the game looks, I am also happy with the music and the humor the Rabbids bring to the title. This is no review by any means, but so far, M+R<\/em> has been a delightful game to play. The Switch might even make its way to the office with me next week…heh.<\/p>\n

When I ordered the Glacier White PS4 Pro, I did so because of the Pro and not because of Destiny 2<\/em>. The game would just be a bonus or I’d sell it. Or so I thought. I’ve never tried Destiny<\/em> and thought, at the time, there was little point if I didn’t have a dedicated group to game with. With Destiny 2<\/em>\u00a0I decided to give the game a go after watching some Twitch <\/a>streamers play. It looked fun, and I like a solid shooter.<\/p>\n

Again, I’ve only had a few hours to play and I know little about Destiny 2<\/em>‘s subtleties, but I think I made the right decision in trying it. Fans might hate the comparisons I’m about to make, but Destiny 2<\/em> reminds me in some ways of Halo<\/em> <\/a>and The Division<\/a><\/em> (both games claimed many hours of my life). Maybe it was the combination of the week I had and the lack of a PlayStation for the past month, but it was fun blasting through aliens last night. As with The Division<\/em>, grinding is integral, but I’ve always been drawn to that kind of game experience so it works for me.<\/p>\n

And that about wraps up my recent gaming. I’m still impatiently waiting for Stardew Valley<\/a><\/em> to release on the Switch. I can feel it! Other than that, it’s been a slight struggle to strike a balance between my academic work and that of “me” time, but the two games above serve as distraction and release when I need it. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n
