One of my fav games especially for star wars. I never thought I game would make you the bad guys, but they did. Playing as the empire and killing rebels felt so wrong but man was it a great game for it’s time. Wish they made more ship based star wars game now

I’d probably enjoy the chance to play them again, but not enough to justify buying a flight stick!
Freespace was a spinoff of Descent, then Freespace 2 forgot about Descent entirely and went completely into space combat sim. It looked gorgeous in the day and still felt like it played pretty well when I went back to it a few years ago. I think it’s on Steam so it’s worth a look.

I did use a joystick. I never had the opportunity to play X-Wing as a kid. TIE Fighter isn’t a bad game by any means, it was just difficult to recapture that nostalgia magic.

I’m not sure that I’ve heard of Freespace 2.

Did you use a flight stick to replay this? One of my first PC games was X-Wing as it happens and I played TIE Fighter to death when it came out. I got through a couple of joysticks playing that over and over before graduating to Freespace 2.
